Dance performance Eszter Salamon: MONUMENT 0.4: LORES & PRAXES (a ritual of transformation)
Cooperation with international festival Tanz im August
31 August – 2 September 2017

In MONUMENT 0: Haunted by Wars (1913–2013), Eszter Salamon collected war dances and tribal dances from crisis regions around the globe, placing the history of dance in dialogue with world history and recounting wartime narratives through the body alone. In her new work MONUMENT 0.4: LORES & PRAXES (a ritual of transformation), the Hungarian choreographer and performer has taken these dances up once again in order to emphasise their ritual aspects. For this work, she has given the material the form of a six-hour performance and translated it into a museum context. Ten young performers will interpret the dances, with which the audience can interact playfully.

The annual Tanz im August festival, presented by HAU Hebbel am Ufer, is one of the central festivals for contemporary dance in Europe. Founded in 1989 by Nele Hertling, the festival offers an international range of contemporary dance performances, prestigious companies, innovative choreographers as well as a sense for emerging aesthetics and formats from all over the world. Berlin-based artists present their newest works and numerous German and international premieres are celebrated here. The events at Tanz im August are shown at HAU1, HAU2, and HAU3 as well as at various other locations across Berlin, including Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Sophiensæle, Radialsystem V, Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, and Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

Tanz im August is a festival by HAU Hebbel am Ufer. Funded by the Capital Cultural Fund and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. In 2017, Tanz im August will take place from August 11 to September 2. For further information and tickets, please visit: www.tanzimaugust.de
